said Daniel to Joseph, who wasn't quite five
"We've been waiting so long!" Joseph said to his Dad
"This is the longest wait I've ever had!"
*
They had baked lots of cookies and cleaned up their mess
and helped Mommy shop and they bought a cute dress
to give Kimberly, they'd wrapped it up in a box
along with a pair of bright yellow long sox
*
They had helped carry wood that they'd need for a fire
They even helped Daddy outside change a tire
and they'd run out of things, and it was quarter 'til two
Now the day was half left and there was nothing to do!
*
"Hey, Mom, I've got a great new idea!" said Dan
"Do you think that maybe tonight Joseph and I can
get our sleeping bags out and sleep there on the floor?
and when Santa comes by and he opens the door
*
we'll peek out and we'll watch him sort out all the toys
We won't say a word and we won't make a noise
Please Mom, please?"
*
"Well," answered Mother, "I'll admit it sounds fun
and I must say it's something that's never been done
and if, by some miracle, Santa you see
you must promise tomorrow that you will tell me"
*
The night was so cold that they started a fire
before they got in their sleeping bags to retire
*
Now somewhere along about quarter past three
Joseph woke up! What a sight he did see!
Instead of eight reindeer wll pulling a sleigh
he was just one small angel directing the way
*
It seems the reindeer had retired and old Santa had chose
to buy a new 4x4 to replace the red nose of old Rudolph
and he hired an angel to drive through the night
with a light which would help him arrive
*
But now Santa was tired after all his preparing
and he was alseep resting up for the sharing ahead
and then Joseph gave Daniel a shake and said
"Listen quick
Daniel! Are you awake?
Daniel! Are you awake?
Can you hear angels singing, 'cause it's Christmas day
In fact, I just saw one! outside, pulling Santa's sleigh!"
*
Well now, Daniel was sleepy, in fact he was so tired
he thought Joseph was nuts! at least a little un-wired
or else he had been dreaming, and yet, Daniel knew
that somewhere, real soft, he could hear singing too
*
and it made him feel happy and all warm inside
so Daniel got up and pushed the window open wide
and right there on the lawn on that bright Christmas day
was an ANGEL with Santa asleep in the sleigh
*
They were both so amazed at seeing that 4x4
they got back in their sleeping bags there on the floor
and they went back to sleep just as fast as they could
and soon they were asleep
*
They were being so good that they didn't SEE Santa
open his pack of toys
and they didn't HEAR Santa, 'cause he doesn't make noise
because Santa is magic! like the great Christmas Spirit
and you cannot see it and no one can hear it
*
but you know when it's present 'cause it's felt in the air
All the people are smiling and there's love everywhere
but
they both heard the angel that pulled Santa's sleigh
'cause she sang about heaven on that Christmas day
and about Baby Jesus and that holy night
when the stable was filled with the glorious light
*
and that people, on Christmas, should all share their love
just like Baby Jesus when He came from above
*
Well, the next day when Daniel and Joseph awoke
CHRISTMAS HAD COME!
somehow neither one spoke
because wonderful happenings and beautiful things
are too special to tell
like an angel who sings
*
but forever young Joseph and Daniel would say
that an angel had sung to them
that Christmas day
and forever they'd think of old Santa's arriving
that day in the sleigh
that an angel was driving!
